Believe in Stevia, Believe in Olade

Stevia is a naturally sweet plant native to Paraguay and is a member of the Sunflower family. 30 times sweeter than sugar in its unprocessed form. When purified, it can be 300-350 times sweeter than sugar. With hundreds of studies showing that Stevia is a safe alternative to artificial sweeteners, it is truly the biggest thing to hit the food and beverage industry in decades. As a sweetener and sugar substitute, Stevia's taste has a slower onset and longer duration than that of sugar, with no aftertaste, depending on how it is processed.

Stevia has been a sweet part of the modern world for centuries. In the 1500s, the Spanish conquistadors learned about Stevia from the Guarani Indians of Paraguay, who used the plant’s leaves to sweeten teas as well as for medicinal purposes. The Guarani named the Stevia plant ka’a he’, literally meaning “sweet herb.” Centuries later, during WWII, England and the United States began researching its potential during the sugar shortages; however, the first country to bring Stevia to the market was Japan.

But Stevia wouldn’t be in the United States if it wasn’t for Wisdom Natural Brands founder and CEO, Jim May. Over 25 years ago, Jim was in Paraguay, tasted the Stevia plant and realized its potential. May invested his entire life savings in bringing the plant and its benefits to market in the U.S. Today, Jim May is known as the ‘Father of Stevia’ across the U.S. as he continues to travel the country promoting Stevia and its health benefits.
